Location
This photo was taken on the roof top of Hotel Mercure in Rome, Italy. The hotel has a wonderful roof top bar and pool with remarkable views. I am a self taught hobbyist photographer, who enjoys travel and sharing that experience with others.Time
My one wish is that I would have had access to the area a half an hour sooner to capture more of the blue hour. This was taken early in October as the day light hours get shorter. A bit of jet lag and being off as far a timing is never helpful.Lighting
I wish that I had been at this location a little earlier to be able to capture more of the blue light hour.Equipment
Gear used Nikon D7200 balancing the camera on a ledge and using a remote trigger. I did not have a tripod with me at the time so you do the best you can with the what you have in front of you. Manual mode shutter speed 10 seconds @ f4.0 ISO 250 46 mmInspiration
We had traveled to Rome in 2015 and I had taken a photo from the same location with my cell phone. Because the cell phone photo quality was not that great my thought was if I ever traveled back to Rome this was a bucket list shot I wanted to capture again.Editing
I always shoot in Raw to be able to adjust highlights, shadows and white balance etc. This photo was edited in Lightroom bringing up the shadows and toning down the highlights a bit. No change in white balance. Normal adjustments in sharpening and small amount of noise reduction. That is about it.In my camera bag
My gear is not terribly expensive. As I mentioned I shot this with a Nikon D7200 using a Tamron 18-400 F3.5-6.3 lens. You don't have to use the most expensive gear to get a great shot, you just need to know how to use it.Feedback
Plan a head, give yourself plenty of time to get to the location you want to photograph and scout out different compositions set up etc. Being female I often travel with my husband. If you travel with someone, make sure they know they need to be patient so that your not rushed and make mistakes.
