Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at Glinks Gully beach in the Kaipara New Zealand.

Time

The image was taken in the late afternoon, early evening as the sun was setting.

Lighting

I wS trying to capture all the colours that were present that evening. There was ash in the atmosphere due to s volcano erupting in Fijin at the time and we knew that it had finally made it to NZ. Due to the ash and the cloud layer we knew we were going to get something interesting in our dhots that evening. It was more than I had hoped for.

Equipment

I was shooting with a Canon 1200d , 55-250mm lens hand held at the time.

Inspiration

There was a family walking on the beach with their dag. They looked to be enjoying the lovely summers evening I wanted to calture that along with the stunning colours that nature was putting on.

Editing

I did minimal processing in lightroom to make the colours pop.

In my camera bag

My equipment bag has cjanged from my 1200d, at the time I had only been shooting for around a year. I have since upgraded to a canon 5d mark 3, with an L series 70-200mm 2.8 lens. This is a must have on all shoots, but I also have a 20-35mm 2.8mm and a 100mm that also travel with me.

Feedback

Keep an eye on the weather as you want clouds but not too many and for natural events such as volcanoes or bush fires that will put slot of ash into the atmosphere and where this may travel to. Capture the beauty that such disasters can create.
