In Ontario Canada, there's an island only accessible by boat that has more Owls than Seagulls and Chickadees combined. Some owls are easy to spot from the road. Others (such as this Saw-whet) are almost impossible to find due to their small size (about 8" full growth) plus they are mainly nocturnal and blend very well into trees.
They are prey to other larger Owls which is why the Saw-whet is usually found beyond many branches of trees as protection.
