This photo was taken in eastern Contra Costa County, the San Francisco Bay area, in the United States. It's a rural part of the county, so I thought this photo tells the story of the county well.Time
It was around mid day, not the best time to take a photograph.Lighting
The sun was high in the sky, and there were not many shadows. I decided to shoot this photo is black and white to maximize the starkness of the scene, since there was one cow and one lone tree.Equipment
I shot this photo with the Nikon D500 camera, and the Sigma 150mm-600mm lens, with no tripod.Inspiration
i usually visit this site quite a bit, to look for hawks and other birds of prey. I happen to hone in on the one cow and one tree, and thought it would make a good photo.Editing
i just did some basic post processing, primarily contrast and sharpening.In my camera bag
My favorite camera is the Nikon D500, an amazing camera to shoot birds in flight or anything moving quickly. A lens like the Nikkor 70mm-300mm AF-P (FX) lens is very sharp and light. I also like the 16mm-80mm f2.8-4 lens, which is the kit lens for this camera, and if I am going "hunting" for birds I take along the Sigma 150mm-600mm lens.Feedback
Always be "looking." I am an avid amateur photographer, but when I walk around or even drive around I always try to "see" photo opportunities. I wasn't necessarily looking to shoot this photo that day, but the isolation of the tree and cow intrigued me, so I am glad I took the photo.
