The state park system in Florida is amazing, and Washington Oaks Gardens State Park never disappoints. The property was once the winter home of Mr. and Mrs. Young. American Indians once used the water's edge as a rich food source. Hundreds of years later, the Youngs built their house facing the Matanzas River. Young would spend time relaxing by the water's edge with a pole in hand while watching the boats cruise up and down the river, also known as the Intracoastal Waterway. There are three venues within one park. The view of the Matanzas River, Intracoastal Waterway, is spectacular, and as the sun creeps lower in the sky sets up some beautiful photos. The second venue, the historic rose garden, is captivating when fully in bloom. And the third venue is down at the Atlantic Ocean. There are large coquina rock formations that are unusual in this part of the state. When the rock and the ocean waters meet, it is both beautiful and violent.
