Walvis Bay, Namibia

Finding large numbers of flamingos seemingly in the middle of the desert was unexpected and incredibly beautiful, as when I stopped to see where they came from the blue of water and greens of lush vegetation emerged between the sand dunes. I expected they came from the Atlantic coast which is very close.

During the day the sky was cloudy, but today the sun emerged intermittently as the sun was closing in on the western horizon.

I hoped to find a spot where I could get the sunset over one of the many flocks of flamingos. It was not at all easy as most of the dunes were in fact islands with deep water between them, especially during high tide (this is all brackish waters).

Fortunately I was able to wade safely to this amazing location where I managed to sit down without scaring them off.
