One of the few remaining images taken with my first digital camera - (it was a Sony point & shoot) ...the majority of the photos I took with this camera were on a hard-drive that died :-(( It was taken in 2005; the rest were backed-up on cheap CD-R's that no longer can be read. A computer geek friend of mine informs me that most CD's-DVD's only last about 5x years on average - (Gold-Gold+Platinum-Gold+Silver are advertised as "Archival -UP TO 100x years", but even they have no guarantees!) My friend thinks that High quality memory sticks-cards are a safer bet than disks - (?). Uploading to the cloud is also recommended, although sometimes sites just cease to exist & take millions of files with them...e.g.: www.poetry.com was taken off-line with hundreds-of-thousands of poems & no comeback!
