Behind The Lens

Location

Crater Lake, Oregon

Time

We drove all day and got to crater lake just in time to see the sunset. A group of motorcyclists told us that every hour the color or blue reflected in the lake changed a little, so we stayed a couple of hours to see. This photo was taken around 7:40pm when the sunset was creating an orange glow.

Lighting

The sunset created a beautiful orange glow. This was my favorite light of the evening, even better than golden hour because of the glow.

Equipment

This was shot on a Sony A7II with a 24-70 2.8 GM lens, no tripod.

Inspiration

This was our final destination after a long drive down the Oregon coast. I was inspired by the excitement of finally making it there, and disbelief of how beautiful it was.

Editing

The photo was edited in Snapseed, just enough to adjust the light.

In my camera bag

Now a-days my bag always has my peak designs travel tripod, my Sony A7III, Sony 24-70 2.8 GM and if I’m planning on chasing the stars my Zeiss 18mm f/2.8 Batis.

Feedback

Crater Lake is unique in that it changes pretty drastically based on the weather, and time of day. This was captured early in September with fall just barely crisping the air in most parts of Oregon. But here at crater lake the temperature was dipping down to the 30’s already at night.
