Not sure if the fact that I'm Italian plays a role into it, but I always loved tomatoes.
When I was a kid my grandfather (nonno) had a wonderful garden both with fruit trees and a veggie patch. He was quite protective of that stuff, but once in a while he was conceding me (+my brothers and my cousins) some treats, which meant we could pick something and eat it. It often happens to me when I'm in my garden and I see the fruits and veggies growing and getting ripe that my grandfather comes to my mind - it all gives me a smile.
