Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on Naples beach on the West coast of Florida, looking out on to the Gulf of Mexico the sunsets are amazing. I noticed a paddle boarder walking the beach with his board in hand and I kept my eye on him until I almost coached him with my eyes to glide into the beautiful sunset that was unfolding before me...

Time

This photo was taken in the evening before sunset 8pm on the 14th of June. After following the paddle boarder I had a great advantage of being able to walk out on the boardwalk to get a better shot.

Lighting

The sunsets on the Gulf are amazing, each evening was different, some nights we had thunder& lightening storms... On this particular night the color and light were changing so fast as the sun set.... so I continued to snap every change in light...

Equipment

I always have my phone camera at hand to capture, this photo was taken with an iphone 6s,f/2.2 4.15mm ios 25.

Inspiration

The sunset, the beach, the cloud formation were all at play here and then the cherry on the cake was the paddle boarder gliding in the horzion and into the sunset....

Editing

The first thing I do with all shots is to execute the frame, I decide the ratio and crop. I try to avoid to over enhancing as much as possible. For my iphone shots I use Snapseed app for post-processing.

In my camera bag

Two Smart phone cameras and an Olympus U Digital, a tripod full and a tripod mini. Flowmotion Gimbal.

Feedback

I have a saying that 'you can never take too many photos' because there's always the possibility that you haven't taken enough.... With sunsets, start taking shots as soon as you can until the sun is gone.... look for foreground subjects/items that might enhance the shot.....
