Location
This photo was taken at my local beach in Galway on the West coast of IrelandTime
It was about 4.30pm on a beautiful cold November evening, the planet Venus was very prominent in the sky, the colours over Galway bay were breathtaking so we took a walk to our local beachLighting
I took many photos that evening, the water on the bay was like a sheet of glass and the colours in the sky were changing rapidly as the sun was setting. I stood behind a large growth of ferns and they created a beautiful silhouette on the colourful sky. The street light on the boulevard/prom was switched on and this added to the scene.Equipment
I used just my iPhone, handheld, at the time it was an iPhone 6s.Inspiration
What inspired me to take this shot was the silhouette of the natural ferns against the magnificent sky background and the way the blue in the upper part of the shot mixed with the darkness of the silhouette to give a beautiful rich yellow in the centre of the shot. The street light being switched on really added to the shot because for me it represented the planet Venus which was very visible in the sky that evening.Editing
I cropped the photo first of all by eliminating some of the lower part of the shot to give a better balance and then I slightly enhanced the blues and the yellows to make them a little bit richer...this also gave a warmer feel from the street light..In my camera bag
I am a hobbyist photographer and I see photos every where I go, from my garden to the Wild Atlantic Way. I am constantly framing pictures with my eyes... I use my iPhone XS and I always carry a second smartphone for back up..that's it, plus of course I carry a large and a mini tri-pod. I also use a Flowmotion stabliser.Feedback
My advice to anyone taking photos is - You can never take too many photos, but you can regret not taking enough. With this photo I took several shots of exactly the same frame, I focused on the darkness, the middle and the blue sky. When aperture adjusts which each focus the colour changes are intriguing and then you have many options to work with of the same shot.
