Location
This photo was taken in Baltimore, Maryland during the annual Carnival Parade.Time
This is was taken just a little after or before high noon. This was a difficult day to shoot for me as it was hot and sunny. Trying to get clean shots with no polarized filter and no flash without screwing the shadows too much or having super strong highlights was tough especially on the move. These ladies were moving fast!!Lighting
There was no special light setup for this shot. Just regular sun light and running and shooting to get this shot. These ladies were partying it up on parade so you just had to get the shot however you could and get dialed in as fast as possible. The key for me was insuring that I found similar spots along the parade route that shared light characteristics so if I missed the shot at first, you knew it was blown until they got to the next spot. Adjusting on the fly was key for this shooting day.Equipment
Fuji XT-2 18-55mm kit lens and maybe one other lens that day.Inspiration
I took this photo to get in some shooting practice of folks who really know how to bring brightness and life to the world around them. The colors and movements really were a joy to capture. I even got shots of a lady in mid-air that day. The shot looks awesome!Editing
I usually do a little editing on my photos but that is generally limited to a little bit of highlight and shadow manipulation to reduce glare or decrease shadow. In my camera bag
I only use my Fuji XT-2 and various lenses. I have more options now than I did back then but, if I did it all over again I might bring a flash.Feedback
If you want to shoot something similar pre-scout the route for those ideal shooting spots. Setup early and be prepared to move because some of the best muses move around a lot. You can't be afraid to adjust your settings rapidly off of your best guess in the moment.
