Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at Hunting Island State park in Beaufort South Carolina. It’s looking southwest back over the salt marsh at sunset.

Time

This was right at sunset during the summer.

Lighting

I really wanted to capture all of the subtle colors of the sky and marsh as the sun slow set.

Equipment

For this particular shot I was using a Nikon D5300 with a Nikon 18-70mm zoom lens. I also had a carbon fiber tripod to reduce vibration.

Inspiration

I love the sea and the marsh. The location is great if you are taking sunset photos, which I was that day. The beauty of nature provided the inspiration for this one.

Editing

All I had to do for this was process the raw image into JPEG. I adjusted the tone just a little so that it’s slightly warmer than the original.

In my camera bag

I always use the Nikon D5300 with either the Nikon 18-70mm or a Tamron 70-300mm.

Feedback

If you are trying to capture sunsets always go at least an hour before sunset to capture all the unique colors that occur.
