Behind The Lens

Location

This image was taken in Via Visconti di Modrone, a pretty central street in Milano

Time

It was near dusk. As it was raining, darkness was falling quite quickly.

Lighting

The light is totally natural (provided that we can consider "natural" the light of traffic lights and traffic itself, of course). No other chances of lighting were possible, as I was standing at the traffic light waiting to be able to cross the street...

Equipment

It was shot with my huawey p20 smartphone. No flash.

Inspiration

I was heading to the Metro going back home from work. I was standing at the traffic light and glimpsed the car lights reflecting on the wet street. I just took the phone and shot this image, then the traffic light got green, and I had to cross...

Editing

There is no post-processing. I try not to do any in most cases, usually because my photos are mostly sketches to be developed in intaglio (drypoint, mostly).

In my camera bag

I'm in no way a professional photographer. I always carry the smartphone, and when I have the possibility, my Sony Alpha 6400. Not much more than that, actually.

Feedback

I love watching, actually. There's something interesting in most scenarios you could dwell in, and I think in most cases it's mostly a matter of having the eyes wide open. Sounds and smells can be useful too. In taking this picture, sound had a relevant part, as I turned the head because a car (I think the white FIAT) had honked. But in general, cityscapes are often quickly gone, so, to me at least, it's pretty important to pay attention to what surrounds you. Beauty is easier to spot than most people think.
