Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at Owharoa falls, Karangahake Gorge. Owharoa Falls is a staircase waterfall in New Zealand, located off Waitawheta Road, near State Highway 2.

Time

This photo was taken some time in the afternoon. I was driving to Auckland and stopped for a break to see these falls.

Lighting

Being the afternoon the light can be difficult to work with, and it was slightly overcast. But the end result was that it gave it a natural soft glow.

Equipment

Shot on a Panasonic Lumix G85. 12-60mm lens. Using a polarizing filter.

Inspiration

I was lucky enough to visit on a day where there were not many tourists, and I had my camera with me, so I had this place to myself for a good half an hour. I was soaking my feet in the cool water and the waterfall just looked so magical.

Editing

Developed from raw in Lightroom. Minor editing on the sky and enhanced colours.

In my camera bag

My main camera body which is a Lumix G85- I will always have 2-3 lenses with me (depending on what I am shooting) and usually about 2 filters also. I always carry a spare battery and spare SD card, you never know when either of those are going to run out!

Feedback

Get to the falls early or later in the day when the lighting is soft and there is less tourists. Avoid peak times of the year (Dec-Feb in New Zealand) as lots of people will be in the water and in your view for the shot.
