This shot was taken in the first studio I ever had and is actually the first photo session I had in a studio.Time
It was taken in the afternoon. But I had blackout curtains on all the windows so that I had full control over the lighting.Lighting
I was pretty much just starting out in studio work as this was my first session in a studio environment. I actually used two speed lights for this shot. One directly behind the model to illuminate the backdrop, and one inside a small octabox above the model.Equipment
I used a Canon 7D Mark II with a 24-70mm f2.8 lens and two Yongnuo speedlights.Inspiration
I love working with people and I had been wanting to get into studio work for a long time. The session was all about practice haha. I knew Greta and asked her to come sit for me and we just tried different things and had fun with the shoot. This shot was one of my absolute favorites and is still one of my most popular photos to date.Editing
Yes, I did some. I do basic edits in Lightroom and then some light retouching in Photoshop, but I try not to do too much. I want the photos to look clean and beautiful but still natural. In my camera bag
Currently I use a 5D Mark IV and the lenses I use most are a 24-70mm f2.8 and a 70-200 f2.8. If I need lights on the go I use Godox TT600 speedlights. For my tripod I use a Geekoto carbon fiber 72inch. It's super light weight, extends up pretty high, can spread the legs out for extreme low angle shots and is all around a flexible little tool.Feedback
Just trust your eye and your vision. Connect with your subject and have fun. Try different things and don't be afraid to experiment. If you're shooting portraits, connecting with your subject is the most important aspect of getting good shots.
