This image of the Great Grey Owl was taken off of Hwy 68 west of Calgary early one summer morning
Time
Usually found in the area around 10AM this young owl was out early around 07:00
Lighting
Lear to use your camera's histogram, better to slightly over expose rather than underexpose.
Equipment
Canoin 7D II with a Canon EF 500 F/4L using a Gitzo CF Tripod and a Wimberley head ISO 100
Inspiration
When I am out looking for wildlife to photograph, its always exciting to find something unexpected as was the case with this GGO,only the second time I found one along this part of the highway!
Editing
Basically as is off the camera but since I always use Camera Raw there is the standard PS adjustments
In my camera bag
I always carry my Canon Bodies, 7D II and 5DIII, Canon macro lenses along with my 70-200 F/ 2.8L , 1.4 teleconverters that I use with the 500mm lense, Gitzo tripod and Wimberley 200 head dependingon what I expect to find sometimes two Canon flashes, and more recently I have added a NikonD500 with their 28-300 lense for scenics
Feedback
USE Common sense when approaching any wildlife, approach slowly as not to spook your subject, learn what to look for should they decide to move, present your Camera settings, for me a tripod is a necessity as I am no longer able to hand hold most of the time, above all, do NOT attempt to approach too close! Take the time to research your targeted subject.
