The photo was taken in the gardens at Guango Lodge EcuadorTime
Taken mid afternoonLighting
Since the little hummingbirds are extremely fast and I am still not a fan of high ISO shots, I opted to use a multi flash set up with reduced power settings on the Nikon Flashes which enable a faster strobe to stop the action as best as possibleEquipment
Equipment used was a Nikon D810 and Nikor 80-400 zoom Gitzo tripod with a wimberley mount, 3 Nikon flashes (SB900)Inspiration
Purpose of my trip to Ecuador was to record several of the hummingbirds I have never seen beforeEditing
Image was taken in the RAW NEF format, no special processing requiredIn my camera bag
Normally I carry the Nikon D810 with two Nikor lenses 80-400 and 28-300 a Canon EOS 7D II occasionally the 5D III and Canon EF L series lenses 500f/4 70-200 f/2.8L 180mm F/3.5L Macro 1.4 teleconverters for both Nikon and Canon, 77mm ND filters and polarizerFeedback
If you do not have much experience with hummingbird photography and do not want to invest in a small forune of gear, I would strongly suggest a hummingbird workshop by the likes of Glen Bartley, Greg Basco. They know where to find the subjects and set you up so you do not miss your shot
