Location
This was taken in the Uintah mountains of Utah, along a road called the "Alpine Loop".Time
We were on a trip to Utah, and took advantage of some free time to make this detour. Early afternoon meant there was still plenty of sunlight for enjoying the fall colors.Lighting
These shots can be difficult, because the angle of the sun is not something you can control, and most of us don't have time to wait for that "perfect moment". It is worth it to try some shots with flash to see what results you get. No worries about wasting film, so experiment while you're there.Equipment
Taken with a Canon 60D, 18-55mm lens. no tripod, no flash.Inspiration
The fall colors in Utah's mountains are always incredible. I happen to love Aspens, and when we came around a bend in the road and saw this stand of them shining in the sun, there was no question about stopping for a photo.Editing
I did a fair amount of post-processing to lighten the bark on the trees, and increased the saturation of the yellows some to bring out the intensity of what I saw.In my camera bag
Minimal, since I am an amateur, and don't have much equipment. Usually just 2 lenses, lens hood, extra batteries, lens cloth and several memory cards.Feedback
Take as many photos as you can of the same scene with different f-stops, exposure levels, and zoom. Composing the shot before taking it saves time and frustration later when trying to figure out how to crop without losing important elements.
