Behind The Lens

Location

The Photo is taken in Kananaskis Alberta Canada, Wedge Pond around October 1 when the leaves are still on the trees. The mountain out of frame to the left is called "the Wedge".

Time

This was Morning hoping for sunrise color on the mountains but the clouds were too thick so I waited until the sun was higher to get the even lighting no shadows.

Lighting

The clouds provided a diffused soft box effect on the landscape no hot spots or dark blacks.

Equipment

I used my Canon 6D on a Gitzo tripod with a 24-70 zoom and a Lee soft grad filter the 3 stop on top. The software processing Aperture/Luminar was used to get a pop with the vibrant colors and enhance the color contrast.

Inspiration

I was introduced to this location by a good friend that has since passed and I was really looking to get some fall colors so in honor of my friend and the location made it an easy choice!

Editing

Yes I edited this first in Aperture for White Balance and clarity, sharpness, The I used Luminar to add more pop with Color and detail, noise removal

In my camera bag

My Bag has Camera body:6D Canon zoom and Tamron zoom wide lenses The Canon lenses can be outfitted with the Lee Filter system for grad filters. I have 2 tripods both Carbon fibre gitzo one big one for hiking and a Benro Ball head on each. I have a cable release or intervalometer made by Aputure/Viltrox for Canon EOS cameras. I carry spare camera batteries and intervalometer batteries as well as a lens cloth microfibre. At night I use mostly Tamron and wide fast lenses no filters needed but I often have 2 cameras going simultaneously so 2 of everything.

Feedback

Generally the Sunrise Sunset is called the Golden hour for a reason, but the Alpenglow is a rare event so it often takes several attempts. In retrospect every attempt is unique and you should never say its cloudy and go home or you would miss this.
