These owls are so beautiful and amaze me that they travel to the Northeast coast from the Arctic Tundra every winter. This one was most likely trapped at an airport (perhaps Logan International in Boston,MA) at some point. It has a transmitter installed on it which allows scientists to track it's travels and habits. They fall out after about 2 years. Took this picture late afternoon after watching it on a buoy in the channel. I started walking back along the jetty and it circled back in and landed right in front of me. It was just me and this owl for about 15 minutes before the frenzy of other photographers showed up.
