This photo was taken on Miyagi Island, a small island off the coast of Okinawa, Japan.Time
This photo was taken around 12pm in the afternoon. I usually have to consider the tide when I shoot at some of the beaches here.Lighting
I had this specific idea in mind for this shot, and because it was a sunny, hot afternoon, I needed to use the shade of large rock areas to prevent over exposure and hot spots, the tide was in my favor and I was able to get the model in the perfect spot to execute my vision.Equipment
I shot this image with my Canon 5D Mark IIInspiration
I love shooting art nudes, and I love Island life, I cannot think of anything better than combining the two!Editing
I was glad that the lighting was on my side for this image, and I had to do very little to it. I did take the contrast down slightly and darkened a bit around certain areas to give them a bit more shadow. In my camera bag
I usually take just my camera and my 24-105mm lens... I don’t have much equipment since moving here to Japan, but I am looking to get a few more pieces to add to my stash.Feedback
Take your time to get what you envision in your mind. Find a good model who understands that you may want to “overshoot” some of your pose ideas with subtle changes to both him/her and your camera settings. I always make notes and sometimes even little drawings so I do not forget what I want to accomplish during each individual shoot. It helps me to stay on track and get the images I know I want when the creativity starts flowing and leads me off track.
