I had a thought yesterday. One that has been part of my core beliefs for quite some time, but I keep coming back to it lately. Although I am not a traditionally religious person, I do believe in God and I believe there is a devil. I believe they manifest as positive and negative forces that attract or repel, just as magnets do. My mother shared a letter written in 1987 by someone who observed the protestors in Peace Park (across the street from the White House) acting very badly. It was interesting to read about how almost every group in the park that day were yelling and being incredibly negative. Perhaps there was a force at work there? The letter, which was addressed to President Reagan at the time, compared the bad behavior of the protestors to the bad behavior in the White House. It asked a very basic question, “What about Love?”. The woman who wrote that letter may have identified the ONLY thing that will save us now. We must reverse the "polarity" in the world. I doubt a president would agree that the solution to so many of our problems is love, certainly our current president would not. It is a great place to start at the grass roots though. I think it is a concept that may be difficult to explain in such a way that it convinces people to make large changes. Most people would just tell you to go eat some granola and let them get back to their important work ruining the planet. I think it is through acknowledging the good in each person and encouraging it, allowing it to grow, allowing that positive force which is God to attract what is good and repel the evil, that we will finally change our trajectory.
