Soft and ethereal, this is really lovely. The lighting and styling are really beautiful. Incredible work.

Location
I set up a backdrop outside in front of my garage. I don't have a studio space, so whenever I want to utilize a backdrop I just find a space and go for it. Sometimes I think it would be nice to set up in a space and not have to break it down again each time, but then again, there is a lot to be said for flexibility and yummy natural light!Time
Late afternoon is my favorite time of day to shoot.Lighting
I feel like the soft diffused light adds to a painterly feeling.Equipment
Shot with a Canon 5D Mark II camera with an 85mm 1.2L lens and a reflector.Inspiration
I am often interested in expressing how I feel at a moment or time in my life through models and photography. At the time I was feeling anxious about things in my life. Expressing my feelings through a model sort of helps me to exorcize my demons a bit.Editing
I cropped to a square format and added an overlay for texture. In my camera bag
Way too much! In addition to my new Canon 5DS, I seem to always carry at least 3 lenses to every shoot, just in case I get inspired. Lately, in addition to my 85 1.2L and my 70-200 2.8L I have been bringing a Lensbaby for fun. Sometimes I will bring my 100mm Macro lens in case I get inspired by the flora and fauna. I have a 50 mm 1.2L but I never seem to use it. I just really prefer the compression of the longer lenses on my full frame camera. I always have a reflector, usually a big 7 foot shoot through umbrella in case I need to diffuse the sun and lately I have been bringing a Lumecube light... just for a little bit of fill when I am close up. I almost never use a flash.Feedback
I think the most important thing in conceptual/fine art portraiture is to find the story. I take a lot of frames and try to take my time moving my models around in order to find the one that tells the story I am trying to tell best.
