Behind The Lens

Location

This image was taken in Edmonton in my apartment bathroom.

Time

It was about midday, but as the bathroom had no window, it could have been taken at any point.

Lighting

The only lighting of the shot was a remote flash above the models head.

Equipment

I used my Nikon D7000, my 18-55 kit lens, and a remote flash.

Inspiration

Jessica and I have dealt with mental health issues, with her and friends and we wanted to collaborate to raise awareness about it. This is one of a series of photos about depression, body dysmorphia and anxiety.

Editing

In photoshop, I added a black gradient layer to add to the mood we wanted.

In my camera bag

I carry a Nikon D7000, 4 lenses in various sizes, a remote flash, a remote trigger, a few filters and a tripod.

Feedback

My suggestion for anyone to try to get a similar feel is to take a bunch of test shots with varying flash power levels till you get the mood you are looking for.
