Location
I took this shot near to where I stay. It is a park with the river next to it. I stood at the bridge to capture this shot. There are not many places in the tiny city of Singapore that offer such views so I have to make the best of it.Time
This was sunset, one of my favorite time of the day to capture the colorful and dramatic sky if the conditions are right.Lighting
The sky would be blown out, so it is essential to use a graduated neutral density filter to prevent clipping while preserving the intense color of the clouds during sunset. Also, to get a longer exposure, a 6 stop filter was also used to capture cloud movement and smoothing out the river surface.Equipment
I used the Sony A7RII, a tripod, and two filters as mentioned earlier to capture this shot.Inspiration
This scene offers great sunset view as well as reflection, and is a favorite place for local residents to relax and watch the sunset.Editing
Post processing is necessary to preserve the highlights of the sky and the color details of the sunset as reflected by the clouds. Some basic temperature adjustment was done to convey a vibrant landscape. In my camera bag
I usually don't carry any other lens, as my favorite lens (Sony FE 12mm to 24mm G) is good enough to capture ultra-wide angle shots. Filters and the holder are always being carried along, as well as spare batteries and memory cards in case of contingencies. A few pieces of microfiber clothes is necessary to ensure a clean lens is used during the photoshoot session. Remote control for shutter is also used to minimise handshake.Feedback
For sunset or sunrise shots, it is necessary to use physical graduated neutral density filter along with a neutral density filter for longer exposure. It is good to do some homework to locate the direction of the sunset or sunrise using readily available apps as this will allow pre-planning to identify suitable angles and direction of shoot and helps with the framing of the shot for best results.
