Behind The Lens

Location

I took the photo in a small field of wild flowers, near a lagoon that is located on the outskirts of Havana. At that time of year, June, many butterflies flutter over the "romerillo" flowers.

Time

I remember that I was walking next to the lagoon around 8 in the morning, looking for some reflections in the water, until I discovered the small field of flowers. There was a good light coming in from the trees around the field that diverted my attention to the flowers and butterflies.

Lighting

the light at that time of the morning seeps through some pine trees creating cones on the flowers, an effect that generates a good drama with the butterflies.

Equipment

It was shot with my old Canon T3i, with a 75-300mm f3.5. I didn't use any more equipment.

Inspiration

Nature photography has always caught my attention and I try to get photos that I can share with my friends and colleagues, every time I get one I feel very good. I specifically like this photo above others that I have achieved of butterflies because I did not go out to look for it, and I think that this is one of the most exciting things about being a photographer.

Editing

I just worked on the lights a bit with Adobe Lightroom. I didn't need to do a lot of post-production work with this image.

In my camera bag

At the time I took that picture I had a Canon T3i, a 50mm f1.8, an 18-135mm and a 75 -300. for some time I have a Nikon D7100 with an 18-140mm, a 10-24mm and the jewel in the crown is a 35mm f1.8, I am currently evaluating getting a 100-400mm telephoto even if it is second hand, just I must wait for the Pandemic to pass a bit and the photographic equipment market here in Cuba is open again.

Feedback

The main advice that I can give for those who want to obtain images similar to this: is to be all the time observing, in the least expected place we can achieve a good photograph, also to have a lot of passence, that is one of our fundamental weapons. the photos are there, waiting for us.
