Location
In my living room, near the window, we have a nice white wall there that was perfect.Time
Mid afternoon, jenough so there was sunlight through the widow but not too muchLighting
Not really :D it was a simple one box one umbrella set upEquipment
One soft box, one umbrella, a fujis100 and a trigger.Inspiration
My daughter loves to dress up and play at being different characters, I had a strong idea of wanting a lil sherlock homes type portrait but I wasnt one hundred percent sure I could get it to workEditing
Always.. I had to take out and clone in a little of her face where the reflection of the glass was too strong, it took SO many shots to try to avoid that as much as I could. Once in photoshop, dodge and burn are my friends to give some depth and definition I felt it needed., a little skin clearing here and there, sharpen up the eyes a touch(although I still look at this image and kick myself for not getting it sharper) I blurred out the background with a little lens blur, tidied up stray hairs and added the vignette..then added a touch of blue throughout. In my camera bag
My finepix xs1, finepix s100, a small flash head, batteries, lots of batteries, two spare cards, a small reflector and my tripod strapped to the outside.Feedback
Be prepared to swear under your breath a lot :D its'meant' to be easy to avoid too much reflection, but its not as easy as I was led to believe, it was difficult to get her to hold the glass steady and at just the right angle, so a count of three getting them to hold seemed to help a bit..
