Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken as we were strolling in and out of buildings at the Fort Rock Museum in Central Oregon. My sister was inside this church playing the old piano there, I was outside trying various settings on my new camera.

Time

It was the perfect day for photography. We arrived at the museum prior to noon that day and it was cold but we were warmed by the sun.

Lighting

I took numerous color shots of this building but wanted to see what it would look like in black and white.

Equipment

This was taken by my Nikon 5100, no tripod, just a 55mm lens.

Inspiration

I could hear the music from the piano inside as it echoed across the desert floor. I wanted to preserve that moment. The curator of the museum, upon leaving, commented that she could hear the piano playing from the office which was about 100 yards from this building. She noted that the music was beautiful.

Editing

No post processing, just submitted in raw image as it was taken.

In my camera bag

I have several lenses but did not want to change them out that day so I just took my standard 55mm lens.

Feedback

I would suggest that you take numerous photos, in various different settings, until you arrive at your desired photo. I experiment with every setting on my camera and I always tell friends and family it does not start with one photo. You have to take fifty photos to find the one!
