This is a composite of all my favorite focus-pulling fireworks shots that I took on July 4th. They came out so cool! Kind of look like bioluminescent sea creatures!
I read about it from this article: diyphotography.net-long-exposure-fireworks-tutorial
my settings were: ISO 64, F4, bulb mode, anywhere from 2-5 seconds. The wider the aperture the "fluffier" looking the out of focus area looks. I tried to watch for a rocket going up, anticipate the explosion and push the shutter right before and hold it until it was done exploding. During that time I would turn the focus ring a lot and quickly. I put a tab of tape on my lens and focus ring that would meet up when I was just inside infinity to make it easier to know when I was in focus.
