Behind The Lens

Location

This picture was taken This photo was taken early in the morning, the hummingbird had its wings wet from the dew and perched on a dry branch about 5 meters from where it was sitting. He kept an eye on everything around him like a watchman in his tower

Time

Eary morning, arround 7am

Lighting

The soft light of early morning was a plus when the picture was done.

Equipment

The photo was taken handheld with a NikonD7000 paired with a 55-300 mm VR

Inspiration

The hummingbird's docile but watchful appearance, pollen-covered beak, and soft morning light reflections inspired this image.

Editing

The photo only has a minimum of post-processing work. Only minimal exposure and color settings

In my camera bag

Nature photography is my favorite, so currently I carry in my backpack a main camera (Nikon D500), a secondary camera (Nikon N1J1, mostly for macro photography using the FTN adapter or extension rings) and a GoPro Black Hero 7 for video. The lenses I carry all the time are: Sigma 150-600 C, Nikon 16-35 VR f4, Nikon 1 18mm VR f1.8 and Tokina AT-X 100mm f2.8. For lighting I have 2 flashes: Yongnuo YN560 IV and Neewer NW670, with various homemade diffusers and reflectors. The tripod is an Oben AT-3535 with ball head. A bit heavy set, but to go outdoors it is better to have all the equipment available.

Feedback

In nature photography, especially bird photography, you have to be ready to take the shot the moment the occasion arises.
