Location
This photo was taken in a summertime garden in Tucson, Arizona. Many people associate the desert with a lack of life and color, but the Sonoran Desert is thriving with life.Time
This photo was taken in the early afternoon. It was a beautiful but hot day in the Sonoran Desert. This little area had so many active butterflies. I could have stayed there for hours photographing them.Lighting
There is nothing better than natural light to camture the beauty of nature. I really like the way the light shining through the butterfly's wings added a luminance and glow. The combination of light and shadows on the flowers also looked so beautiful to me.Equipment
I used a Canon EOD 80D and a Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4.0-5.6 IS II Telephoto Zoom Lens. This was my first DSLR camera and although I have upgraded my equipment, I still love this setup.Inspiration
I took a motorcycle ride to the desert to get some nature shots. I have noticed that photography has opened my eyes in so many ways. By always searching for a great photograph I notice the beauty of the world around me in ways that I never have before. Butterflies and flowers can almost seem cliche as that is often a good starting point for beginning photographers, but butterflies are still one of my favorite subjects to photograph. Few things show the beauty, color, and delicate balance of nature like a butterfly.Editing
For this shot, I cropped it square to get the composition I wanted and adjusted color saturation and shadows to get the photo to look as close to the actual experience as possible. My hope was to get the photo to bring the viewer into that beautiful world I experienced that day, depicting the scene just as I remembered it.In my camera bag
WANDRD PRVKE 21 Bag (The best I have ever used), Sony A7III, Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III RXD Lens. I rotate in lots of other gear, but this gear is with me every day.Feedback
Participate in Viewbug challenges and explore the site to see what inspires you. Experiment, explore nature, always look for the beauty in the world around you, and take a lot of photographs. For every photo that I love, I probably take 100 that I don't love. That is one of the most amazing things about digital photography. We can shoot freely, experiment, and try many things without worrying about running out of film!
