This is David

This is David. I met David on a Saturday morning while I was downtown Bloomington, Illinois to shoot photos at Cogs & Corsets 2018. I was walking along the sidewalk, when I saw a man sitting on one of the building steps. As I approached him I smiled and said "Hi".

As I extended my hand, he immediately stuck out his hand to shake mine. While we were shaking hands, we had established eye contact. I saw his eyes light up, and I saw joy in those eyes.

We introduced ourselves, and exchanged a few pleasantries. David related to me how so many people walk right past him, as though he didn't exist. And they certainly don't stop and talk with him.

I asked David if I could take his picture. He readily agreed. This is David - he's a person. He's experiencing hard times - he's a person. I'm sure that he's experienced enough indignity to last a lifetime.
