I always like to try & think-see a little differently for my B&W. Probably comes from the film days. The sun was just clearing the horizon to the left of this shot so the trees were bathed in shadow, used a telephoto on maximum zoom to deliberately under expose & also pick this specific area out of the horizon. Canon 6d. Sigma 100-400c. 400mm 1-200sec @ f8. iso 100
