After a long trek up Great Gable in the English Lake District it is always worth the effort for the magnificent panoramic views you are blessed with. The conditions were not great for photography as it was around noon and the light was too bright plus there was a stiff breeze which made hand-held zooming a challenge. This view from the Westmorland Cairn is always my favourite and I was happy with the result.

The day I was there, in 1999, it was incredibly hot. My son and I had walked up from the Seathwaite side as my wife drove round to visit my aunt who lived in Drigg and then we all met in Wasdale Head.

It's a tough climb up Gable from Wasdale, only tried it once which was enough! OK going down that way though!
