Some interesting facts to me about this beautiful church include that it was built to give thanks to the Madonna by grateful Venetians for deliverance from the great plague of 1630 and that it rests on one million wooden piles drilled into the soft mud of the lagoon. People light candles here today to give thanks for good health. It appears in many great art masterpieces including those of Sargent and Turner, among others. I don't do oils, but I decided I'd accomplish this painterly effect digitally, no doubt offending the aforementioned artists if they're watching.
