I took this photo somewhere off the Greenbelt in Austin, TX. We were moving a lot but it wasn’t too far from the main access point off Mopac.Time
When I took this photo it was towards the end of a shoot I was doing for a music video. I’m pretty sure it was around 4pm but you’re also surrounded by trees so it has a different feel than regular time when you’re in the woods.Lighting
I shot when the sun was high knowing that the trees would break it up and it would need to be more intense to break through. This spot was a little more open above but the sun was back behind some high trees to keep the lighting softer.Equipment
Funny story, I didn’t have my equipment but I had access to an old Canon 20D with a stock 18-55mm lens. I had a tripod but didn’t use it for this shot because she was actually running and spinning and I had to follow her close.Inspiration
We wanted to shoot a music video all with stills and so this was very spontaneous. Just an old camera shooting at like 6 frames a second then interpolated for a higher frame rate. This was the last shot of the video when she turns around to see what is chasing her.Editing
I just enhanced the colors that were already there because everything was already pretty. It just needed a pop of vibrancy.In my camera bag
I currently carry a Canon 6D which is a good all around full frame camera that gets the job done. I’ve never had any problems with either of the ones I have. I love the 16-35mm Canon L f4 lens because it’s so clear and I love fitting a lot into the frame. I also carry a Canon 50mm f1.4 which is a lens that takes the photos for you. Everything always looks great, especially at a lower f-stop. Other lenses are dependent on my mood. I have a great little carbon fiber tripod that is compact I like to use and that’s what I carry anytime anywhere. Everything else depends on what I’m doing or planning to shoot. I also carry a drone to scout or just get cool shots from above.Feedback
Go for a walk in the woods with a camera and you can shoot all day, even without a subject. Go scare someone by popping out from behind a tree or chase them and you might get the same shot. Or get someone you know to run from you and make sure you’re on a high enough shutter speed. Just make sure it’s a sunny day and you’re deep in the scraggly woods.
