Thank you. This is a fond memory of the colourful sunrises in the red centre of our country.

Behind The Lens

Location

I had just retired and the very next day my best friend picked me up for a three week adventure going out into Central Australia. The trip involved me sleeping in a swag under the stars for the very first time in my life. This shot was shot just before sunrise from my swag and is typical of the sunrises I woke up to practically each day of the most memorable trip of my life.

Time

It would have been shot between 0500 and 0530 at the beginning winter.

Lighting

Sunrises in outback Australia in winter are simply beautiful and provide so many photo opportunities. Having never travelled in this part of my country I was just gobsmacked by the beauty and splendour of the sunrises and sunsets and since my first trip there in 2016, I have travelled back each winter to learn more about indigenous culture and photography and I am always amazed by something new each time.

Equipment

The photo was actually shot with an iPhone 8plus.

Inspiration

The sheer beauty of the sunrise with such colour. Living in cities all my life I was never this close to nature in all its glory.

Editing

The photo is unedited.

In my camera bag

At the time my gear was limited to m iPhone, a Nikon D7100 with a sigma 18-200mm lens and a tripod.

Feedback

The only advice I can give is to do yourself a favour and travel to this very ancient part of our planet and make sure your shutter finger is fit and ready.
