Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at the lighthouse at Gibraltar at the junction of the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean.

Time

The shots taken late morning on a bright and sunny day

Lighting

This shot is a cropped portion of a larger coloured photo. I had a vision of this shot so I cropped the original photo and applied a fine at look filter.

Equipment

Shot was handheld with Nikon D800 E, Sigma 24-105 lens.

Inspiration

I don’t get to many lighthouse locations and the full photo captured the short distance between Gibraltar and Morocco. While studying the photo I was struck by the thought of a cropped fine art version focusing solely on the lighthouse.

Editing

I don’t typically do a lot of editing of my shots. In this shot I did some tweaking using the Tune Image tool in Snapseed. Also used the Healing to hide some small lens flare blemishes.

In my camera bag

On my travels I typically have my Nikon 800E and my iPhone camera and a small manfrotto tripod.

Feedback

What I learned from the original picture was to always study your photos with the possibility of finding one or more shots embedded in your single shot.
