On a retreat with my wife and I just spent some time down on the beach of Lake Michigan. This piece of driftwood was positioned nicely with interesting patterns in the sand. I stacked a couple of polarizing filters to act as a neutral density filter, then used a couple of tinted graduated filters on the sky to help bring the exposure into line and create an even exposure over the entire image. I used a Canon 7D with a cheap Sigma 18-55 f3.5-5.6 stopped down to f13 at 13 seconds and 100iso. I cropped the image down in Lightroom, and used a graduated filter in editing to give more richness to the sky. Also did minor adjustments to saturation, clarity, vibrancy, brightness, and contrast.
