I once found a laying turtle. I sat away until she had left. I then covered tracks and smoothed out the mound: The locals had a bad habit of eating the eggs. So I made it a mission every morning. Great shot, wish I had a camera back then.

Behind The Lens

Location

I am a volunteer all summer for our Loggerhead sea turtles here in South Carolina. This amazing sunrise was on the Atlantic Coast.

Time

We walk before sunrise to check for sea turtle nesting activity. This photo was taken on one of my early morning walks for these amazing creatures.

Lighting

I was actually walking North this morning and decided to turn around and see what the sky looked like behind me. I was breathless for a moment!

Equipment

As it so happens that we have to carry a lot of supplies with us for nest protection I did not have my DSLR camera with me. I took this photo with the only thing I had which was my cell phone! Oh I wish I would have had my camera with me but very thankful I captured this unforgettable image with something because I truly have never seen another one as magnificent as this one.

Inspiration

I simply had to try to capture this incredible sky.

Editing

Post processing was not an option for this image!

In my camera bag

I normally shoot with a Nikon D500.
