Location
As taken at Orokonui which is an ecosanctuary in Dunedin New Zealand. Although the the South Island Robin can be found in many areas of native bush in the South Island it has made a home here where its safe from ferrets, stoats possums and wild cats which prey on them in the wild. The sanctuary was built to help save many of New Zealand's endangered native bird species including the Takahe. The Robins are free to roam in and out of the sanctuary if they want.Time
Mid morningLighting
The weather was overcast and ideal conditions for catching the detail in the Robins feathers.Equipment
Canon 80D with the 100-400 mm lens. Hand held.Inspiration
A while ago I started photographing my way through a list of birds that live in Canterbury, South Island. My visit to Orokonui during the Photographic Society of New Zealand Conference in Dunedin was a good opportunity to see lots of the species on my list.Editing
As I shoot in raw format and my post processing workflow consists of basic adjustments in Camera Raw and then Photoshop. In my camera bag
My camera bag is just big enough to hold the most commonly used lens I have, the 100-400mm, 10-18mm wide angle and 100mm Macro as well as tripod, diffuser, Torch, lens cloths, insect repellant, Sunblock, wet weather gear, first aid kit and my lunch.Feedback
These little robins are very inquisitive birds so patience and the right light are the best skills required to nail the shot.
