Behind The Lens

Location

I took this just outside the Grand Tetons National Park. This is one my bucket list photos, so our trip to Yellowstone was my chance.

Time

I took it on June 29, 2018 at about 1:45 in the afternoon. I also had a fight with clouds blocking the mountain view.

Lighting

The slight overcast from the earlier rain gave a unique lighting situation. I didn't have the normal wash out of a bright sunny day to fight.

Equipment

I used my Canon EOS 80D with the Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM SLR Lens and a Hoya polarizer. I mounted on a Manfrotto Light Aluminum 3-Section Tripod with Foldable 3-Way Head along with a Canon Remote Switch.

Inspiration

This was a bucket list photo moment. Because it's a very popular photo destination, I've seen several versions. I wanted to try my hand and create my own version of this view.

Editing

I used Lightroom to make minor adjustments, but nothing drastic. I really want my photos to be as original as possible.

In my camera bag

I pack a light bag for the most part. I have my Canon 80D of course. I usually carry two lenses, the EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM SLR (wide angle) and a EF-S 55-250mm F4-5.6 IS STM and a extension tube. I have a variety of filters, lens hoods, and a remote shutter release.

Feedback

Patience always. Know where you're going to give yourself enough time to make it. Try to set out as early as possible. I didn't have that luxury this time, next time I will. Scout the site for the angles you like, and hopefully it's not crowded (why early is best). . Shoot as much as you want from a variety of views.
