Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken at Mason Lake, Washington. The lake is accessible by hiking the Ira Spring Trail.

Time

This was taken early afternoon on a very misty/rainy day.

Lighting

The skies were just beginning to clear after a wet hike up to the lake. I hurried to capture the mist while it was still in the trees.

Equipment

This was taken with a GoPro Hero 4, and edited on my iPhone using the PS Express & Enlight apps.

Inspiration

The scene was so primordial, and the glossy rocks reminded me either of ancient ruins or creatures emerging from the waters.

Editing

I do my post processing on my iPhone using PS Express for initial sharpening, light balance, and saturation. I use the Enlight app for most of my other effects & filters. In this case, I used the “De-Haze” effect in PS Express to enhance the separation between mist & sky.

In my camera bag

With my GoPro, it’s fairly minimal. I keep it in a waterproof case with absorbent pads to prevent fogging. I also bring lens wipes... and that’s pretty much it.

Feedback

This afternoon shot looks like an early morning shot. For this kind of image, I’d say get up before sunrise. Or move to Washington. ????
