During a hard spring downpour while hiking to find unknown waterfalls I came across this burried among the mossy rocks.I propped it up and took the shot under a umbrella while hard rain made the shot have a certain feel.

This photo was taken during a heavy spring downpour where a friend and I where out looking for local waterfalls that are only active during heavy storms. As I was traversing over the landscape I noticed this mustard yellow object embedded in the lush green forest floor.I decided to prop it up and utilize the best of the rain situation and capture the essence of the feel of the day. This shot is taken in Hamilton,Ontario that is known for it's several amazing waterfalls and bright green moss covered limestone rocks.Time
This shot was taken midday in a torenntial heavy downpour under an umbrella with about 20mm of rain in the forecast getting the lighting and angle was the tricky part without getting wet from the rain.Lighting
The lighting did help with using an nd filter to cut through the rain and use of a umbrella to protect the camera from the moisture. What was unique is the umbrella is quite large which gave the perfect cast of shadow in the narrow depth of field with the angle that I used. The moss during mid day after a rain storm always seems to be more illuminated which helped in creating the mood of the shot.Equipment
I primarily shoot with a Canon 70d APSC format with a battery grip and a Manfrotto 190x pro tripod on a ball head. The lens I used is a Sigma 18-35 that has been altered using the Sigma dock to give different shooting perimeters. The lens has been adjusted in the bios of the lens to +18 on back focusing and +18 on up front focusing, I have the lens adjustment on the 70 D adjusted to +14 on the background adjustment and +14 on the front focusing to allow a greater feel to the depth of field while using the lens wide open a 2.8.These settings took awhile to figure the adjustments but allow the lens to be quite versatile and producing unique shots both at wide open apertures and middle of the day narrowed f22 stops.Inspiration
Sometimes we journey out with idea's and locations that we want to shoot in our creative visions,it is often that I always tell other photographers sometimes it's the shots of things you find along the way that end up being the best.If you don't stop to take in everything that surrounds you sometimes you might miss the most unique things that often overlooked.Editing
I used lightroom C.C in processing using minimal adjustments to not loose the feel of the image. In my camera bag
I have two bags depending on which situation I am going into be it live music photography or street photography I use a larger Lowepro shoulder bag,if it's a long duration hike then I use my trusted Lowepro Mini trekker AW.In my both my bags I have my camera with my walk around lens a Canon 18-200mm along with my trusted Sigma 18-35 and usually my Sigma 8mm Fisheye lens. My go to filters for both my 18-35 and 18-200 lens are 72mm Tiffen 2 stop ND filters that I carry five each off to stack in various configurations.I also primarily use a Haida 10stop ND filter that has no color cast for my long exposures. For cleaning I carry 3 large lens clothes one I keep on me in my pockets and the other 2 for backups.I carry 4 spare batteries for the battery grip that allows me 3 days of full shooting till I have to recharge.I also carry Zeist lens wipes in case I run into any issues that I need to clean my camera off from moisture or dirt depending on what I'm shooting.Of course no camera bag wouldn't be complete without some back up nutrition so I carry power bars and a bottle of water in case I need to stay out longer to get the shot I'm looking for.Feedback
Don't try to be crucial at getting the shot that you really want that you have in your head, things happen that sometimes you may not be happy with the result or conditions where not right.Always try to be receptive of the beauty around you and you will always find something interesting and unique that you might have normally just passed by.Always push your comfort zone and try new things don't be afraid to see what happens with exploratory shots and interesting new angles.
