Behind The Lens

Location

Shot in my studio in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.

Time

Mid afternoon to take advantage of reflected daylight.

Lighting

I much prefer using available light be it natural daylight or street lights or whatever is available. I like to check out the lighting before a shoot. Reflectors can be used to a great advantage to add subtle lighting you wish to use...

Equipment

Nikon FM2 35mm. Hand held. Ilford Delta 400 B and W film rated at 250 ASA.

Inspiration

I hired a hairdresser for an upcoming magazine cover foto. I went to the salon to speak with him about the shoot. When I walked in this gal was the receptionist... ‘bald’... no hair... what irony... I asked if she would be willing to come to the studio, at her convenience, and sit for me... This is one of the results of the session... ! Irony inspired me... ;-)

Editing

No post processing. The 35mm negative was digitized on a Crossfield Drum Scanner.

In my camera bag

Depending on the shoot... Nikon D750, Nikon 18-35mm f3.5 lens, Tamron 24-70mm f2.8 lens. Leica CL 35mm Rangefinder film camera, 28mm f2.8 Rokker lens, 40mm and 90mm Rokker lenses. Bronica 6x4.5 cm medium format film camera.

Feedback

When the moment strikes... strike back...! This image would not have been created if I did not see the irony of the situation I was in and had not asked if I could fotograph this beautiful gal.
