Mistaya Canyon - Banff, Canada
Last year I traveled to the Canadian Rockies and spent three weeks exploring this vast area covered by several provincial parks: Assiniboine, Banff, Jasper, Yoho, & Kootenay. I really enjoyed my time there. While I had heard people compare this area to Glacier National Park because geologically, it's similar, I found the experience to be quite different. Partly because of the way the roads in the park are laid out, but also because of the unique areas this land has to offer (plus it's Canada!). Majestic peak after peak are revealed, and pristine alpine lakes filled with glacial melt are just about everywhere.
Mistaya Canyon is a beautiful spot carved out by melting glaciers and was running quite high in early summer. The small cascade on the left was created by an ebb and flow of the river as it periodically swelled. That meant that water would predictably fall down there every once in a while. Trying to time the cascade was a meditation, as I merged my mind with the rhythm of river.
