Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at Tibbet Knob in West Virginia while backpacking the George Washington and Thomas Jefferson National Forests.

Time

The photo was taken on during chilly sunset on March 18th.

Lighting

I was trying to capture that moment just as the sun was about to fade away behind the horizon.

Equipment

When backpacking I carry my Sony A6000 which is a light camera. The camera was tripod mounted with a 16-50mm lens shot at 16mm.

Inspiration

When hiking and backpacking, I often like to include the 'hiker' to give scenes scale and a sense of adventure. I stepped into the scene and used a delayed timer and remote to capture myself enjoying the view from Tibbet Knob at sunset.

Editing

There was some Lightroom to lighten the shadows in the foreground of the image.

In my camera bag

I shoot with both a Sony Aiii and Sony A6000, however for backpacking trips to reduce weight I only carry the A6000 which is lighter with a 16-50mm lens. Even backpacking I still carry my Peak Design travel tripod with is relatively light and compact.

Feedback

If you want to get something similar, get out there and experience the outdoors. Get the gear and backpack, camp out, hike further get to places that require more effort and experience the places from evening, through the night and into the morning.
