Location
The photo was taken at Antelope Island off the causeway to the Island out of Syracuse, Utah.Time
The photo was taken between 45 minutes and an hour before sunset.Lighting
This photo was taken while a storm was beginning to roll in from the west from the direction of the water. Winds became very strong. saw the sunburst and wanted to make that my main focus so I zoomed in on it then enlarged as well.Equipment
Nikon D5500 with a Sigma 10-20mm F/4-5.6 and an Oben brand tripod. No flash was used.Inspiration
The sunburst is what inspired me to take the photo. Sunsets are my favorite off of Antelope Island but the sunburst is what made me wish to shoot it.Editing
I enlarged the sunburst with Lr and Ps. I went through the standard vibrance/exposure/and cropping so as to enhance the rays and make them the focal point in the photo. In my camera bag
I use Nikon equipment as well as a Tamron Zoom, A Sigma wide angle, and a Rokinon f/2.8 10mm along with the 18mm-55mm kit Nikon lens that came with the camera. My bag includes filters a Nikon flash, and my Oben tripod, unless I'm on a trip and then I use the lighter more compact Manfrotto.Feedback
Frame the image in your mind first. Set up and take what your camera gives you. Go through all of the basic steps and make sure your ISO/exposure settings/ant that you're in focus. Don't put your horizon line in the middle of the photo. Take it higher or lower than the middle. If the sky is there, show it more, if the sky is bland, show the foreground more. If neither are becoming, forget that shot. In shooting the sun's rays, shoot a bit darker image and fix it in post processing if necessary.
