Behind The Lens

Location

I am a self taught photographer and this image was created in my garage in the mid-western US.

Time

I created this image at night to ensure no light was leaking around the garage door for full control.

Lighting

This was my second attempt at light painting. The lighting was done with a flashlight and a blue piece of plexiglass over the flashlight for the blue gel effect.

Equipment

As with any long exposure, my Nikon D70 was on a heavy wooden tripod. I used a 3 second timer to open the shutter to reduce camera shake. I changed my shutter open time to get the effect I desired while using ISO200 fro the sharpest image.

Inspiration

I have small collection of old cameras I have been cleaning and/or restoring. Our local photo club had a contest with the theme of light painting and wanted to give it a try.

Editing

I only did a basic auto adjust in CS2. My goal is to always create the best image in the camera.

In my camera bag

I only carry a few things in my bag. Nikon D70, Tamron 80-210, Nikon SB flash, extra batteries, charger, ND Filter, and a bean bag. Simple and light weight.

Feedback

If at first you don't get the image you desire, keep trying different ideas. This is a trail and error technique that requires many attempts and lots of patience but all worth it in the end.
